An Extension of Nice Bases on Ulm Subgroups of Primary Abelian Groups

Suppose A is an Abelian p-group and α is an ordinal such that A/pA is a direct sum of countable groups. It is shown that A has a nice basis if, and only if, pA has a nice basis. This strengthens an earlier result of ours in Bull. Allah. Math. Soc. (2011) proved when α < ω.

Additive Bases in Abelian Groups

Let G be a finite, non-trivial abelian group of exponent m, and suppose that B1, . . . , Bk are generating subsets of G. We prove that if k > 2m ln log2 |G|, then the multiset union B1 ∪ · · · ∪ Bk forms an additive basis of G; that is, for every g ∈ G there exist A1 ⊆ B1, . . . , Ak ⊆ Bk such that g = ∑k i=1 ∑ a∈Ai a. This generalizes a result of Alon, Linial, and Meshulam on the additive base...

non-divisibility for abelian groups

Throughout all groups are abelian. We say a group G is n-divisible if nG = G. If G has no non-zero n-divisible subgroups for all n>1 then we say that G is absolutely non-divisible. In the study of class C consisting   all absolutely non-divisible groups such as G, we come across the sub groups T_p(G) = the sum of all p-divisible subgroups and rad_p(G) = the intersection of all p^nG. The proper...

Abelian Groups, Gauss Periods, and Normal Bases

A result on finite abelian groups is first proved and then used to solve problems in finite fields. Particularly, all finite fields that have normal bases generated by general Gauss periods are characterized and it is shown how to find normal bases of low complexity. Dedicated to Professor Chao Ko on his 90th birthday.

Typical integrity bases of abelian crystal point groups

,Abstract. It is shown that an integrity basis of absolute invariants for any representation of a finite abelian group follows from one integrity basis universal for this group-the typical integrity basis (TIB). An algorithm based 0n.a subsequent multiplication of monomial bases to irreducible representations is found for deriving the TIB. The concept of integrity basis is extended to relative ...
